    The Ironic Thing about Gaming...

I have been yelled at, complained to, whispered to, and many more ways of communicating over a video game that "Dude, It's Just a Game."

To all of you people who say that, I hope you swallow your tongue, and here is why! The irony of this situation is, I am not easily disturbed or aggravated so you thinking I am mad... is your mistake. This goes for most people on the internet... we aren't 10 years old (for the most part) we won't get mad and start screaming IRL because you think you are that important to effect my actual life... SORRY. Another thing, I don't hate you because hate would mean I cared enough. Yes yes, I know... so mean. But remember, It's Just a Game.

    ROUND 2!

If in fact, it is JUST A GAME, as you say it is, then why play to be bad? Do you fail / suck at all your other hobbies? Do you play baseball but can't actually hit the ball with your bat? Do you play basketball with your feet? I mean, are you proud of being terrible.... after all, gaming is a hobby that tends to take up a lot of time.. and if you aren't going to try and put some effort into it, why try at all?

I don't see how telling someone "it is just a game" justifies the lack of effort, the disregard of knowledge and common sense, and the depressing truth that people just want to blame their idiocy on the game.... All and all it is just a bit ironic that people pay money to give excuses for their inabilities in a game.

(Yes, I know... it is actually JUST A GAME, but it is also a hobby... and if you game, it is your hobby.)

Gimmicks VS Gaming -- The Sad Truth.

Blizzard released a NEW "LIMITED" edition mount and companion for World of Warcraft players. This mount runs $25 US dollars + tax and the pet (companion) is $10 +tax are available for download to your WoW account. All this while they have yet to make any really decent game play. All the gimmicks but none of the passion... it is a sad sad truth most people try and ignore.

Since everyone knows I love math and definitions... let's go with some math this week, but first a story....

When the Celestial Steed and Lil' XT were released, there was a mass flood of checkouts at the Blizzard store online. So much so people were given a number in queue and an estimated time... when i checked out I was #17,654 with an estimated 2 hour time.... I was astonished. Later that evening a guildee of mine clicked checkout to end up @ 143,972
    Okay --- math time ---

    143,972 x $25 = ~$3.6 MILLION

I wonder how much money they made in total that day from EU servers and US servers.... granted, there were probably bots and people who weren't buying the mount.... but still how ridiculous.

Either way, Blizzard/Activision are slacking with content, quality and customer service EVEN THOUGH they clearly have the means to fix any and all problems. W T F ! ? ! Stop making gimmicks and fix the game play! I would rather not be bored... then spend money on stuff I don't need...

Hopefully next expansion isn't quite as easy...... I miss the old days when clam meat didn't stack, you had to be level 40 to get a riding mount, and you ran up hill both directions to get into a raid (with 40 of your closest friends) just to wipe for hours. BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

Did you buy the new releases? What was your experience? Any other gaming companies racking in the $$$$ but not improving their game play?

    -----------------------------------------------

On a side note, I wanted to let people know one of the best WoW fan stories and my new favorite fanfic...Kamagua -- The Grave Digger. It is a great trilogy!

    Anyways, until we meet again!

    OMFG DNFTT PPL!

For those of you who aren't familiar with the abbreviations above: Oh My F***ing G-D, Do NOT Feed The Trolls PeoPLe.

Since you know I love definitions and math, let's start with... Defining what it really is to troll.

    Trolling (v.) -

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or game, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion

I always wonder to myself why people seriously spend hours on end trolling forums, trade chat, websites etc. I would think they have better things to do with their time... they should be more productive... and then I remember I spend time leveling random characters out of boredom.... go figure. But still, trade chat trolling ends with people really pissed off.. which is humorous to some.... and detrimental to others.

I ran into some guy last night who had never played the game before... and wanted to know what spec was best for a warlock. Sadly he asked trade chat.. and ended up getting logged off, exited out of wow, and trying to find his Fury spec... needless to say, I whispered him to help but he just ended up logging off.... probably never to return.

I can't say I hate all trolls... sometimes it's pretty funny how worked up people get on certain subjects... they get REALLY pissed REALLY fast. For example, there is this "special friend" on my server who screams in trade chat "Fu** all democrats. Elect a Republican to fix all the problems. Democrats are a bunch of b****es." Every SINGLE time that happens trade chat goes a mile a minute, people get mad the capital letters come out and war has begun. Responses vary aswell... "OMFG YOU ARE FUCKING RETARDED. YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR GUN AND WHAT IS LEFT OF YOUR DIGNITY AND GO BACK INTO THE TRAILER PARK YOU CAME FROM." Then there is "Republican's got us into this mess" which tends to flare everyone else who wasn't in the conversation and all hope is lost for trade chat until it calms down.

Some of the jokes make no sense.... and that would be the entire reason of the post.... Like the "Why do they call it the Xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away." Ah yes... then the idiot, moron, retard comments come... all the while the guy is laughing his fucking head off...

Anyone know any other trolling subjects? Maybe other games where trolling is terrible?

SO Moral to the Story.... DNFTT.

    Blizzard and the BS

Ok, again I am speaking for the World of Warcraft players. I don't really play a lot of other games BUT I know you all can relate to this issue.... Game Makers (LIKE BLIZZARD) who know they have a serious issue with their game play, or player experience, and just ignore it.

I spent the last hour and a half trying to log into my WoW account. That's right... I am very patient... to a point. I deleted my folders, uninstalled addons and modifications... I reset my router and modem. I called my internet provider, I pinged, I ipconfig -ed... I have done everything in my power to make this stupid game load... and it won't. SO, I did what any WoW addict would do... Go to Forums to try and figure out another solution and post my rant....

I came to find out there are 1,000 other posts about this subject. I am not the only one.... which is sad. Apparently they are ignoring us... which makes me really mad since we are the reason they have jobs in the first place right? I don't understand how you can release something like a patch, upgrade, expansion, or whatever and have glitches like this. It is ridiculous. SO, let's do some math, since we know that's what I love... Math and skewing statistics (lol) If there are 1,000 different posts on the same subject from about 800 different people... and only 20% of the population (that's a rough estimate) actually go to forums and utilize it... we are looking @ about another oh.... 2.2MILLION players who also have this problem.... which they won't / can't fix. That seems like they didn't tweak the patch enough to release it. ANYWAYS we can all look forward to more mess ups by blizzard and another expansion to be released that doesn't live up to any hype.... because that is was Blizzard has become... another mediocre game company. Now if you would excuse me, I am off to reinstall World of Warcraft.

Lore: The Stories Behind the Games

Let’s start out with the definition because I love definitions. You can never know too many words.

    lore
    1  [lawr, lohr]
    –noun
    1. the body of knowledge, esp. of a traditional, anecdotal, or popular nature, on a particular subject: the lore of herbs.
    2. learning, knowledge, or erudition.
    3. Archaic.a. the process or act of teaching; instruction.
    b. something that is taught; lesson.

Every single game we play has lore behind it. From Nintendo’s Super Mario World, to the games of today including World of Warcraft. And to think something like 85% of the WoW population has no idea who the people they kill in dungeons and raids are. Can you believe it?

When I do anything in life, I like to have a clue what to do, and the background behind it before I jump in. It would be like moving to France and knowing nothing of the culture or language. People need to get back in touch with what the game is! Blizzard has a HUGE following. Something like 11 Million people play this game YET ~9 Million are clueless.

I am not saying everyone should wowwiki or wowhead everything so they are as knowledgeable as some of the older players, but I am saying you should at least know that Arthas was the Prince of Lordaeron, which is current day the top of where Undercity is. That is just to know your villain.

Along the lines of lore, I would also like to point out that people don’t read quests. I am guilty of this too, though I have read most of the quests at some point on one of more of my characters. Reading your quests gives insight into what the whole game is about… It might even inspire you to go after some new achievements and earn new titles. (Loremaster, Ambassador, Diplomat, ect.)

If you enjoy lore, like I do, I encourage you to read outside sources (a.k.a. Non-Blizzard employees). Some of the best stories come from truly talented people, who also play the game for fun. One of my personal favorite stories is found on fanfiction.com by the name of The Gravedigger (and the other GD stories) By Fros X. Socker

Do you have a favorite lore story? Do you know the lore behind your favorite game?
